Vista Aero Tip

I've had a rather interesting time this evening troubleshooting why Aero stopped working in Vista on my laptop. (Aero is mainly characterized by the transparency effects in the window borders and title bars)

After much searching and little answers, I stumbled upon a forum that suggested the display bit depth be checked. Sure enough, I was in 16-bit mode (probably from attempts to get Oregon Trail working for Heather a few days ago).

So, if your Aero stops working, try checking your display bit depth. It needs to be on 32-bit for Aero to work right! I switched mine and it popped right back on like it was supposed to be. Wahoo :)
